I repeat this post from time to time whenever a few hundred additional people follow me.

I haven't made a point of this previously, except when someone told me I had no idea what I was talking about. I wanted to see if people will accept what I say on its own merits, rather than because of my resume. But since I try to offer informed analysis about the subjects I discuss, rather than just a bunch of personal opinions, I thought you should know the basis for my observations and conclusions.

So other than some obvious jokes that people without a sense of humor take seriously (for example, I do know that CNN has more than 6 viewers; they have at least 20), the points I make are based on my education and experience, which is as follows:

PhD. in political science, University of Chicago, 1981.

Speechwriter and public policy analyst for a successful Republican congressional candidate.

Senior Vice President of State, Local, and National governmental affairs of a trade association for ten years, during which time I received two “Presidential Awards for Private Sector Initiatives” for business and community programs I created from President Reagan and President GHW Bush.

Executive Director of 5 public-private sector task forces reorganizing the administrative functions of a major city's police department, criminal court system, public hospital system, school district, and rapid transit authority.

I had White House security clearance for the last 6 months of the NAFTA negotiations, which included coordinating logistical matters with the Chief Negotiators of the US, Canada and Mexico to finalize the treaty.

I spent 3 years on Capitol Hill working on public policy matters with Jody Powell (Jimmy Carter’s Press Secretary) and Bob Beckel (Walter Mondale’s campaign manager), among others.

I entered the private sector at the turn of the century. With two partners we created a national marketing agency representing the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and several other national non-profits.

After I sold my interest in that agency, I had additional senior-level private sector experience in the real estate and telecom industry, big-box retail industry, as well as the restaurant industry.

Now I am blissfully retired.

I want you to take what I write on its merits, not my resume. But if you wonder why I have a distinct point of view about some things, this will help you understand my reasoning. Then accept it or reject it if it does/doesn’t make sense.

All I want is an honest dialogue with people who want to engage in real discussion or debate, not an endless series of someone’s personal feelings offered as concrete “counter-evidence” to my conclusions

We keep hearing about all the illegal things the Democrats, FBI and others did.

Undoubtedly it’s true. But if all that’s going to happen is public condemnation, then consider the condemnation done.

The only time I want to hear anything about this in the future is when the indictments are revealed.

Always look at the internals of a poll.

Adults, vs registered voters, vs likely voters.

Sample size for the margin of accuracy.

Assumptions made about turnout between Dems and Reps so one group is over or under represented.

And the exact wording of the question asked.

With these factors, you can make any poll say anything.

I gave a perfectly reasonable and accurate explanation of how polls are conducted, based on my education and personal experience. I’ve done this before during the Biden administration as well to caution people against believing partisan hype.

There’s an old saying that shit in equals shit out. Comparing shitty trends to shitty trends still shows you nothing about reality. Rasmussen has Trump at 44% approval and trafalgar has him at 50% in their latest polls. These were the two most accurate polls in the last presidential election, which attest to their credibility.

Change the channel on your TV set, or look at a different source of information on the Internet and you might actually learn something instead of embarrassing yourself with idiotic platitudes disguised as actual thought.

TDS is treatable. But first you have to seek help.

So, I ran a congressional political campaign, worked for a K Street, political consulting firm that did national political polling, and was acquainted with NORC while I was getting my doctorate at the University of Chicago.

Why is it the people who don’t get a lot of responses to their posts automatically think they’re being shadowbaned, or suppressed, or discriminated against, or the algorithm has been changed?

Sometimes I write things that get few thousand views, other times I get less than 10.

Some of the things I write that I think are profound get no traction, other times I write something that is pretty silly and I get an overwhelming response.

The only consistent thing I’ve learned is that if you don’t write something that interests people, whether it’s serious or in jest, you’re not going to get any response.

X is a marketplace. If all you want to do is focus on your numbers, figure out what’s going to get you the most traction.

But if you’re just here for the conversation, sometimes you get a good response, and sometimes you don’t. That’s just the way it is, and that’s perfectly fine. Not every post needs to be a winner.

The media has always been partisan and corrupt going back to the founding of this country, through the yellow journalism of the Hearst era, through the right wing conservatism of the Cold War to the social justice of the modern era.
