The President of the United States is asleep at his desk. Again.
Behind him stand seven grown adults in expensive suits, and not one of them is doing anything about it. One is mid-sentence. Another is gazing sideways with the haunted look of a man whose pension depends on never acknowledging what he can see in his peripheral vision.
The rest of the world is watching, and the rest of the world has noticed something. Americans are terrified of authority. That fear has settled over this administration like a fog, and it turns otherwise functional adults into warm furniture. Nobody moves. Nobody speaks. The paralysis is total.
In any European parliament, in any boardroom from Oslo to Ljubljana, someone would have leaned over by now. Tapped a shoulder. Said, quietly but clearly, that perhaps this isn’t the moment. Somebody would have done something, because the alternative, pretending a sleeping man is running a meeting, would have been too absurd to sustain.
Not here. Here, seven men have collectively decided that the correct professional response to the President losing consciousness in the Oval Office is to carry on as though he were a particularly demanding houseplant.
Statement from the Nobel Foundation
One of the core missions of the Nobel Foundation is to safeguard the dignity of the Nobel Prizes and their administration. The Foundation upholds Alfred Nobel’s will and its stipulations. It states that the prizes shall be awarded to those who "have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind," and it specifies who has the right to award each respective prize. A prize can therefore not, even symbolically, be passed on or further distributed.

Wait so Kristi Noem’s podium at DHS is just a straight up Nazi slogan now?
"One of ours, all of yours" was a Nazi policy made when an SS officer was killed in a Czech Village and then the Nazis killed every single resident of that village in response…..but don’t you dare call them Nazis!

Bornean Orangutan Gordon! Gordon was the first orangutan born at Monkey World - 28 years ago today, in fact. Sadly he was premature and had to be hand-reared but has grown into a magnificent male now!
The cat's out of the bag... or something like that!
Monkey Life series 18 is premiering on November 2nd on Sky Nature at 5pm. The series will follow everything that has happened in the past year, including the arrival and introduction of Kiwi here to the orang-utan nursery.
Siamang gibbon Sam is known for giving incredibly indepth grooming attention to Sasak's eyes- which she very patiently allows. Wendy caught this practise on camera during her visit last week!
Beautiful autumnal scenes at the park- with gibbons enjoying the trees as much as we are! Golden-cheeked gibbon Peanut hanging out in the golden turning trees- perfect! Thanks to Helen for sharing this! Have you booked your trip to see us yet?
There's not much that young orang-utan Kiwi misses! She's a bright inquistive young lady, who is always on the go... and when she finally sleeps, it is by using Sibu as a pillow :)
Thank you to Wendy for sharing this one of Kiwi from a visit.
Chimpanzee Cindy has very distinctive pale markings around her eyes which gave her a somewhat perpetually sleepy look- don't be fooled, she's very switched on! As one of our first chimps at the park, she has elder and respected status within her group.
