This past weekend, legendary dancer, choreographer and Alvin Ailey muse Judith Jamison passed away at the age of 81.
Jamison’s life was a masterclass in artistry, resilience, and breaking barriers. As a dancer, choreographer, and the visionary artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, she transformed the dance world, creating space for Black dancers and artists to thrive. From her iconic performance in Cry to her 21 years leading Ailey's company, she not only redefined the art form but built an enduring legacy that celebrates Black culture and leadership. Her influence continues to inspire generations, and her powerful contributions will forever resonate in the world of dance. May she forever rest in peace.
