Parents absolutely get to decide what books their kids read or don’t, but their jurisdiction doesn’t extend to other people’s children. Our family (and many others) wants our kids/grandkids to read accurate history and the rich stories of ALL of humanity. Leave our kids alone.
Two Adkins 5th graders have seen a need with the devastation of Hurricane Ida and are heading up an effort to provide help for those affected. We will be collecting tarps (20x30 or larger) to send to victims of the hurricane. We will be collecting the tarps this week.
And, God help us, we don’t turn from Trumpism to Bidenism. We do not worship flesh and blood. We do not place our faith in mortals. We are the church of the living God. We can’t sanctify idolatry by labeling a leader our Cyrus. We need no Cyrus. We have a king. His name is Jesus.
Maybe a lot of y’all have been feeling a little down like I have. These are hard days. My friend who is a therapist told me recently to practice savoring. To pause over anything lovely or fragrant or noteworthy or intriguing or mysterious -anything at all- & find some joy in it.
We need to be careful not to micromanage teachers, parents, or students right now. Everyone is doing their best in a crazy situation and probably feels completely overwhelmed at times. Adding unnecessary pressure isn’t going to improve the situation.
@dentonisd families, we miss you and our students, even though learning is not taking place within our schools, students are learning. They are learning how we handle uncertainty, how we remain calm in the storm, and how much we love them. Stay home, keep distance, wash hands.
School districts, for the most part, let’s remember that this isn’t homeschooling, or online school, this is making the best of a bad situation in the middle of a crisis. That should be what drives decisions.
A school Superintendent said something profound in his address cancelling school for the next 3 weeks. “In the end, it will be impossible to know if we overreacted or did too much, but it will be QUITE apparent if we under reacted or did too little.”
Hear those words my friends.
