A parents 2nd worst nightmare has happened. A second child of mine has died. On June 10, my 37 yo son, Rocky died from a brain aneurysm. He joins his brother Ben, 26, who died in the military in 2016. I barely survived losing one child, not sure I'm strong enough for this.

@Ladieswhotrek I want Voyager. The finale was almost as bad as Enterprise's. Too much of Voyager was left up in the air: status of Maquis, Borg crewmembers, court-martial for Janeway, family reunions, etc.

@Matt_Pinner Grandfather, KIA, WWII, Army. Father, sister, 3 uncles Army. 2 brothers Navy. I was Navy. Oldest son, Army. Youngest was Navy, died on active duty. Lost count of cousins, nieces, nephews in various branches. Family history of service in Army, going back forever. Family business.

@CrazyVibes_1 Absolutely gorgeous, an heirloom. Your quilt will be passed down to next gen, MIL's to garage sales. Keep quilt, dump the mother-in-law. Your husband needs to tell her to hush, that he loves the quilt, the family story and is proud of you. It's a bigger problem than your quilt.

@MrPitbull07 A bonded pair should not be separated, it is trauma to them. We adopted a bonded pair from the shelter and never regretted it. Take the pair!

@its_The_Dr I worked at Kresge's lunch counter. My first job. The ladies who came for coffee and a muffin every day were so very kind. When I went to boot camp, they made sure I had a letter every few days and sent care packages.

10 Christmases without Ben, 5 Christmases without Rocky. Missing them doesn't get easier. I'm told to move on, stop talking about them, it makes everyone uncomfortable. I'm supposed to worry about others; when part of my heart is gone forever. Loved and missed forever, my babies.

I'm Penny, from Ocala, FL. I lost my son, Navy PO2 Ben Demers, in September 2016. He was stationed aboard the USS NIMITZ. Ben is my youngest of 4 and was 26. In June of 2021, his oldest brother, Rocky, 37, left us due to a brain aneurysm. Rock was a vet of the Army reserves.

Kids of active duty, born w/ deficits due to mom's and/or dad's service (happening now), being lesser than doesn't sit well with me. One size fits all doesn't work.
