These two guys are definitely having nightmares tonight.

Basically, this Russian training accident happened because someone took a rotary machine gun from a helicopter and treated it like a normal ground gun.

The YakB-12.7 was originally made for the Mi-24 attack helicopter. It has brutal recoil, and the forces it produces are nothing like a regular machine gun. On a helicopter, the airframe and mount can absorb that madness.

But once you slap it onto a simple ground setup, it suddenly develops a personality.

You think you’re controlling the gun, then it starts controlling you.
