Beijing is masking a severe economic decline by forcing nearly half of its workforce into precarious gig labor to prop up state statistics.

According to a report by Reuters, tens of millions of Chinese workers are fleeing crashing manufacturing and property sectors for platform gig labor. Flexible workers are projected to hit a staggering 320 million in 2026, making up 44% of the entire workforce.

The CCP hides this crisis by counting anyone working just one hour a week as fully employed. In reality, the situation is a ticking time bomb. Most gig workers cannot afford social insurance, starving a national pension scheme that the state-backed Chinese Academy of Social Sciences warns could be completely depleted by 2035. With major hubs like Shenzhen already issuing market saturation warnings and basic monthly payouts sitting as low as 163 yuan, an entire generation is being left without a functional safety net.

Trading long-term economic security for fake employment metrics exposes the regime's complete failure to manage this crisis.
