Maple Leafs deadline thoughts:

Very vanilla deadline for the Leafs. No creativity or weaponizing cap space. My biggest issue? Didn't get a single player in any deal that could potentially play for them next year.

Reason the Bruins are improved this season is they picked up Minten, Mittelstadt and Khusnutdinov at last year's deadline along with the picks. All 3 are playing in their middle six and scoring at roughly a 20-goal pace.

Assuming the Leafs don't sign McMann and Laughton in the summer, they're now likely going to have to plug those holes in free agency. It's going to be costly and this summer's free agent class isn't deep.

If the plan is to re-tool next season it would've been nice to get a player or two back with upside that could make a quick impact. This is starting to feel a lot closer to a rebuild.
