Historically, commerce and money traveled at about the same speed.
For the past ~150 years, the speed of commerce increased thanks to technology, but our money (gold) was still slow, so we had to abstract it to keep up.
Only recently has the speed of money caught back up.
We often misunderstand new technologies because they don't neatly fit into our existing world.
Only once incentives and structures shift does their usefulness become apparent.
#Bitcoin is one such example. And looking at current uses can give us a peek into the future.
