Fourth time's the charm! 49,641 votes, 0.21% (50.135 vs. 49.865).
Will she govern to unify the country or as if she had won in a landslide? She's sounded conciliatory & reasonable lately. 🤞
Her history in opposition, however, tells a different story: she's been responsible for a lot of the political instability in the last 10 years. She has a golden opportunity to redeem herself. @JulioFCarrion1@WillGFreeman
New @atlas_intel@business poll (#Venezuela, June 2026, n=2,581): @delcyrodriguezv disapproval reaches 63%, approval down to 24%. Two-thirds (65%) reject the government’s response to the June 24 earthquake.
The most trusted external actor is the U.S. government (+64), and @MariaCorinaYA remains the most positively viewed leader in the country (+25). On timing, 46% say elections are more urgent than before the quake, against 33% who want them postponed for reconstruction.
Method caveat: this is an online nonprobability sample (Atlas RDR), skewed toward Venezuelans with stable internet connectivity. https://t.co/YR3FeUHA6Y
“In a blunt message delivered through intermediaries close to the White House on Friday last week, Machado was warned that if she pressed ahead with a plan to return, she risked losing Trump’s support and derailing his Venezuela strategy” https://t.co/yTndDcbha7
@WSJForero@WSJ "sense that Rubio is broadly sympathetic..." If so, the Rubio camp sure as hell unloaded on her via @Axios! Either these folks are misreading Rubio badly or the Rubio camp is very divided...both are possible.
@realDonaldTrump's dilemma: renew TPS and admit the situation in #Venezuela is dire (despite Trump's claim Venezuelans are "happy"), & anger the immigration hardliners among MAGA. Refuse to renew TPS and anger the diaspora, plus send hundreds of Venezuelans back to a devastated country to make the situation even worse!
@mmshowalter1@MariaCorinaYA@MarcACaputo@SecRubio@CaracasChron I agree (see, https://t.co/eGhewE4HcL). But, (1) managing outcomes in volatile situations is tough, (2) this administration is worse than most in making these decisions (i.e., Iran), & (3) there’s no evidence Trump thinks beyond narrow transactional terms.
This is a devastating story for @MariaCorinaYA! @MarcACaputo has impeccable sources, particularly within the @SecRubio camp. The quotes in this story are 🔥
"Machado's high-profile attempts to return have saddled the State Department with "extra needless drama," an official said."
"It's political opportunism and it's grotesque," a senior administration official said, echoing four others.
"She wants a photo op of her passing out our aid," a second official said. "This is about her interests."
And the kicker: "Marco [Rubio] is at wit's end," said one U.S. official. "She has to be patient and she won't be, and it's driving him crazy." #Venezuela
