@goldstone_tony thanks for all your work with the modeller. I have just inputed my numbers and looks like I have a tax charge for 24/25. Should I wait for confirmation from my pension saving statements for 24/25 whenever it comes or use the estimated numbers for my tax return?
@goldstone_tony@wesstreeting @tom_gardiner95 @BMA_Pensions Wes, please help address the pension issue. Just think of how many consultants you will stop going part time if you do (including me!)
@MarkBelchamber@goldstone_tony@gdcuk But if you do this extra work it will be taxed at a marginal rate if 62% (if you include NI) if you earn between £100-125k. Where’s the incentive to do WLI work for normal earning doctors??
@wesstreeting If I am going part time, extrapolate that across the whole profession and you are probably losing lots of WTE consultants/GPs. Sort out retention now, it’s a quick win when it comes to increasing doctor numbers.
@wesstreeting I thought you got it Wes but you clearly don’t! These numbers are made up and will not make a difference until way past I retire. I will retire earlier and be part time because of the pension issues. It’s all about retention right now. Address this and I may vote for you
@jayghosh27@Drspider15@Vish_Sharm@goldstone_tony@TheBMA@BMA_Consultants I completely agree otherwise do we just rollover and accept the new normal when it comes to pensions. The problem usually lies in apathetic colleagues who don’t appreciate what is being done to them by the government
@ingridtorjesen@bmj_latest I would be happy to talk to you. I am however going on holiday tomorrow and I won’t be back until the 20th December. If you want to speak to one of my colleagues who has already gone part time for the same reason I can put you in contact with them.
@SteveBarclay I am a 50 year old consultant and I am going part time in Januayfor one reason only - AA tax bills every year if I don’t. I already reconciled to retiring early and leaving this Omni shambles of a health service. The government will reap what they sow!
@Jeremy_Hunt I am a doctor and have just made the decision to go part time because of pension tax issues and paying 60% tax. Is this the supply side reform you were after?

.@Jeremy_Hunt knows broken NHS pensions tax is driving senior doctors out of our health service. Sign the @HCSANews petition for him to do something about it: https://t.co/R8dWAjx9MG
I'm a doctor. Current NHS pension taxation rules are unfairly hitting senior doctors hard with many forced to retire early/reduce hours. This crisis cant go on.
@AJonesMP as my MP, please will you attend @TheBMA pensions event on Weds 6 July
@aroradrn@dr_shai@caz_sampson@trentconsultant What’s the point of applying when they aren’t pensionable and further erode your personal allowance so you effectively pay 60 % tax on your CEA if successful
