I finally got to wear the silly, funny hat last week.
Now I am flu-like-symptom-but-Covid-negative sick post-travelling. So it is as good a time as ever to do the big thank you post I’ve been putting off for so long.
Sydney folk, come join a celebration of my new book Virtue Capitalists launched by Professor Emerita Raewyn Connell on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 5pm for 5.30 (ending at 7pm) at the University of Sydney Western Tower room, in the Quad. RSVP 👇asap https://t.co/9uFXc6MyxD
I'll be giving an online talk for Melbourne Fashion Week on Mon 23 Oct 1pm: https://t.co/FRiDlpXzmL...
I've been delving into a wonderful collection of photos taken at Melbourne's live music clubs in the sixties and will be talking about the mod menswear on show.
Attention @JasonClareMP : Hannah Forsyth is the very definition of the kind of historian and academic you would want teaching young people in universities today. She's leaving the profession after an appalling restructure at @ACUmedia. We need university governance reform now:
'The only job that matters is the one that bosses tell themselves they have to do.'
@hannahforsyth on solidarity among managers and the logic that governs the university sector. https://t.co/Votai8XDHa
INCIDENT ON THE ANU ACTON CAMPUS
There has been an incident on campus. Police are at the scene and have the situation under control, with an individual in custody.
Please stay away from Fellows Oval.
More information to come.
The AHA has released a public statement voicing our dismay about the proposed cuts to History, and the humanities and social sciences more broadly, at the Australian Catholic University. @ACUmedia
You can view our statement here: https://t.co/RHZM2eVeVl
Because she hasn't gotten enough boosting yet, my wonderful colleague @hannahforsyth's new book, years in the making, has just been published. You should read it, maybe also our bosses! https://t.co/4dj0V5cmQH
So far I've seen two petitions doing the rounds re: the cuts at ACU, if you're wondering what you can do to support the scholars being treated so shabbily there
General NTEU petition: https://t.co/Dlp8VG5i4h
Medieval and Early Modern Studies open letter: https://t.co/X2KyPqxv9a
The administration has made a series of bizarre financial decisions like spending $250 million dollars on a new building which just opened this year. I've never seen a university building like it. They are now shocked that there is a budget crunch.

The mass layoffs at @ACU_IHSS@DIP_ACU should alarm everyone.
For context: ACU recently lured many of the world's best historians, philosophers and social scientists to Melbourne by promising them amazing conditions only to now summarily fire them all 3 years later
Its President is dismayed too. Next year will be 30 years since my first full-time lectureship in a university. I can't recall a more incompetent or brutal treatment of a group of close colleagues that this one by the Australian Catholic University.
The AHA is dismayed by the proposed cuts to History staff and programs @ACU_Media. We express solidarity with our colleagues at the Australian Catholic University, and call on the University to reverse its harmful and damaging proposal. 1/2
