‘I always said to the social work, you can do whatever you want to me. Please don’t split my bairns up. And they did. They split them up’. Harrowing tales from one birth mum we interviewed.
Four in five of the children were living apart from at least one sibling. Almost half of the children who had brothers and sisters living elsewhere had no contact with them.
Phase 2 report @PermProg published today. Funded by @NuffieldFound, study by @StirUni, @LancasterUni,@AFKAScotland looked at pathways, permanence, experiences, wellbeing, connections and support for 1,836 children looked after in Scotland age 5 or under in 2012-13. #PermProg2
We’re so grateful to all the local authorities involved in our study, particularly the social workers who have completed questionnaires. The next stage of the study has now started, with the first questionnaires being sent out to carers and adoptive parents.
New research published today on newborns and infants looked after away from home in Scotland. The vulnerabilities of families really resonates with findings from #PermProg
So exciting that the research team could meet in-person today for the first time since Phase 2 started - very productive (and we got a bit of sun too!) @HelenWhincup2 @maggiexgrant @DrLCusworth@JoopHoop#PermProg

All families need support[...]‘Families’ means all families including families of origin, kinship, foster and adoptive families. Support will not be predicated on the setting of care. (p26)
We’re looking for a qualitative researcher to join the #PermProg2 team, with @HelenWhincup2 @maggiexgrant and @DrLCusworth (quant vacancy based at @ChildFamJustice coming soon) https://t.co/eCa8dVVpEa - please RT!
Brilliant news. Phase 2 of Permanently Progressing is being funded by the Nuffield Foundation and a philanthropic donor. We'll revisit 'our' 1,836 children in middle childhood.
