@leightond6@somethingwithin@oholyshift I’ve struggled a lot these past few years with faith and also found it comforting to hear you admit to past struggles. You don’t try to put on a false front to fool your readers and it’s really something I valued while reading your book. #VUTHL1000@oholyshift R10
@FarleyMackenna @oholyshift@somethingwithin I feel like it’s really common to hear people talking about religion without any actual knowledge of what they are speaking about, I’m also interested in hearing what you think would be a solution to this @oholyshift#VUTHL1000 r9
@catheri01432075@oholyshift@somethingwithin In high school I took a course that highlighted meditation as a form of “spiritual enlightenment” I really enjoyed the course as a whole even though it didn’t necessarily involve Christianity as the religion. @oholyshift#VUTHL1000 R8
@rusty_abate@somethingwithin@oholyshift I also was reminded of a personal story by her writing, my mothers mom passed away while she was still growing up and she always told me how much I reminded her of her own mother. @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
P6 .@somethingwithin From what I read, I feel like your relationship with your daughter is extra special. Do you think the absence of your mother made you more inclined to make a strong and special relationship between you and your daughter? @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
P10 @somethingwithin Dr. Weems, your book was incredibly inspiring to me as someone who often strays from God. I find it hard to keep myself grounded in faith (especially in college) so I really valued it as a whole. @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
P9 .@somethingwithin How were you able to come to terms with the fact that you would never become the writer or scholar you could have been because you chose to also be a mother? @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
P8 .@somethingwithin Did you find that writing your book made it easier to see the cycles of life/seasons that you encountered? Or did you already have an idea of the cycles of life you encountered during your life? @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
P7 .@somethingwithin I really liked your point about being present and thinking about what you “ought to be doing” in a particular moment. Being present is something that often escapes me and something I struggle to control amidst day to day life. @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
@catheri01432075@oholyshift@somethingwithin I agree, it was insightful to hear your personal stories and made it feel more raw and real. Often times I feel like preachers fail to relate their words to real life experiences, making it difficult to make sense of what they are referring to. #VUTHL1000 response 6
P5: .@somethingwithin You wrote about the verse that confused you in regards to Leah, did you you ever come to any conclusion, either with your study group or on your own, about what the writer could have possibly meant in writing such a bewildering verse? @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
@GrenotJessica @somethingwithin@oholyshift I think it’s hard to understand when God isn’t making his plan known to us, so silence is often labeled as “God is working, you just can’t see it right now.” But think both ideas presented are valid, it just depends on the person and how they view God in their life #VUTHL1000 R4
P4: .@somethingwithin Your struggle with balancing 3 jobs all the while becoming a mother seemed to be an impossible task, did you ever consider putting aside your studies? I can't imagine the work load you had on your plate. @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
P3: .@somethingwithin You compared God's plan for you to patches of experiences with seams to bind them all together. I admire that you are able to see the bigger picture of your life and how it all came together to become something beautiful. @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
@MaddyJo98125329@somethingwithin@oholyshift I think your story encompasses the cycles of faith well, and even more so what it means to come back from experiencing a loss or dip in faith. I’d also love to know your take on any backlash (or lack of) you received. #VUTHL1000
P2: .@somethingwithin I thought the way you told your story as a young girl was really powerful and I respect your ability to see God’s purpose in an event that caused so much confusion and sadness at such a young age. @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
.@somethingwithin You write that “But then something happens to snatch me down under, beneath the tide.” What do you make of these moments that try to test your faith? Is there good beneath all the turmoil? @oholyshift#VUTHL1000
@MaddyJo98125329@somethingwithin@oholyshift And how did you come to terms with accepting that some times in your life would really test your faith? How were you able to weather those thoughts and come out on the other side still having faith? #VUTHL1000
