Years before my husband died, I helped start Free Arts Minnesota, serving abused, neglected, foster and at-risk children through the power of creative arts and mentoring.
One evening after a program at a large group home, the kids proudly showed us where they lived. As we walked into their locked hallway, they each stopped to pick up a cup of medication.
I asked a staff member, “Are they all sick?”
She replied, “No. That’s their behavior medicine.”
That was 1997.
Nearly 30 years later, it hasn’t gotten better. It’s gotten worse.
Mental health industry is churning out therapists like they're on an assembly line. And what's their main skill? Basically, just being good listeners and keeping a conversation going. The proliferation of "pop culture therapists" has contributed to this phenomenon. Many of these practitioners derive their understanding of psychological disorders and interventions more from viral TikTok videos and YouTube self-help gurus than from rigorous scientific research or deep philosophical foundations.
This trend has led to a dilution of the therapy "product," with complex psychological concepts often reduced to catchy soundbites and quick-fix solutions.
Therapy Culture is fundamentally authoritarian.
It threatens the sovereignty of your own mind.
Social control isn’t new—they want you to believe you’re mentally ill, weak, sick, or sinful. The goal is always the same—you can’t trust your own judgment, so your framework must be outsourced to an external authority—a “trusted expert” who knows best.
They want you begging to be diagnosed and medicated.
That’s why it’s more important than ever to resist all forms of thought-policing, align with what you think is right, and refuse to surrender your own judgment.
Last night I was chatting to a medical intern doing her psychiatry block. They are still being taught that SSRIs corrent a "chemical imbalance!" I referred her to Prof Moncrieff's @joannamoncrieff 2022 meta study. I hope she reads it. This is truly frightening. As medical students are being taught outdated information, we are moving backwards. How long does it take for a textbook to be corrected? It took 30 years for Semmelweis to be taken seriously and for doctors to wash their hands.
The onset of my schizophrenia coincided with the development of religious delusions. My early exposure to religious teachings, particularly from Sunday School, introduced me to concepts of the devil. During a profoundly traumatic childhood event, I experienced a profound sense of malevolence. Subsequently, I perceived one of the perpetrators as embodying the devil (the devil became a stand-in), leading to the erasure of this event from my memory (dissociative amnesia).
I also had identified with the story of Jesus. As a result, I adopted the belief that I was Christ-like with special powers. It was the only comparable I could pull from memory to match the horrific experience I had, without my knowledge, of course. The story of Jesus also seemed to match some my own suffering. It is no wonder I was clutching a Bible most of the time.
When I sit and listen to people’s religious delusions, I understand that one of the things they’re trying to tell me is how much they’re suffering.
Schizophrenia has its own distinct language and if you don’t understand it, and are unwilling to enter the sufferer's world, you’re in no position to help them.
DEATH BY DOCTOR: The 3rd Leading Cause of Death in America
Medical malpractice, surgical errors, and improperly prescribed drugs kill people every single day.
Hundreds of thousands of Americans die each year from preventable medical harm — not from their original illness, but from the “care” meant to save them.
Researchers estimate 440,000 deaths annually from medical errors. This makes it the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States — right behind heart disease and cancer.
Yet these deaths are almost invisible. There is no official ICD code for “death by doctor,” so they’re swept under the rug and never properly counted.
Dr. Peter C. Gøtzsche, MD warned:
“Doctor-prescribed drugs kill hundreds of thousands of people every year. Half of these people die while they do what their Doctor told them to do...they die because of the drugs side effects. The other half die because of the errors made by their Doctors.”
Wrong drugs. Dangerous interactions. Surgical mistakes. Hospital infections. Misdiagnosis. Medication errors.
This is not rare.
This is happening every single day.
Question every prescription.
Demand second and third opinions.
Research every procedure.
Your life may depend on it.
