6 June, 1674 (Jyeshtha Shukla Trayodashi) - a great day in the history of Maharashtra... a great day in the history of Bharat!
352 years ago this day - the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, at the Raigad Fort.
The beginning of a new era - the era of 'Swarajya'.
#महाराष्ट्रदिन#MaharashtraDay 1 May is celebrated as Maharashtra Day to commemorate formation of the state in 1960. Many decades earlier, the respected and gifted Ram Ganesh Gadkari, poet, playwright, author who wrote poetry under the pen name गोविंदाग्रज wrote a beautiful poem. The poem expresses eloquently the spirit, diversity, the valour, the spirituality and the contrasts that define #Maharashtra.

Back-to-back #WorldChampions! Defending a #WorldCup takes character and this team led by @surya_14kumar played with real intent on the biggest stage! 🇮🇳
@IamSanjuSamson@ishankishan51@OfficialAbhi04 were outstanding in the final. Sanju, across the opportunities showed again why he’s a match winner. Ishan was consistent right through and played a solid role in India’s run. @IamShivamDube@hardikpandya7 shifted momentum at will when the game demanded it.
@Jaspritbumrah93 was truly special, the tougher the situation the better he got! @akshar2026 was magical with the ball, picking up crucial wickets, with Hardik, @arshdeepsinghh and #VarunChakaravarthy keeping the pressure on throughout.
Congratulations to coach @GautamGambhir and the entire support staff as well! A lot of hard work goes into moments like this!
India, World Champions again. 🇮🇳🏆

Today is Madhavrao Peshwa’s 282nd birthday anniversary. He was born at Pune (and not Savanur as often reported. In eleven years, he achieved success that rescued the Maratha Empire from the abyss after Panipat1761 and the death of Nanasaheb.
The jury is out on who of the four Peshwas can be called the greatest of them (and the Q. is frequently asked) but Madhavrao’s is a strong case to be called as such.
This post Panipat period is the crucial eleven-year long time of Madhavrao Peshwa. My book ‘The Mastery of Hindustan: Triumphs & Travails of Madhavrao Peshwa’ deals with the remarkable resilience and recovery of the Maratha Empire against the backdrop of an all India setting.
This review last year by @ShoumojitB about this Phoenix-like recovery is interesting, readable and hits the sweet spot!

Today is the 281st birth anniversary of Peshwa Madhavrao - one of the great leaders of 18th century India.
Do read more about Madhavrao in @MulaMutha's excellent book: "The Mastery of Hindustan – Triumphs & Travails of Madhavrao Peshwa".
"The plains of Panipat were not more fatal to the Maratha Empire than the early end of this excellent prince"
-- British Historian Grant Duff, summarizing Madhavrao's achievements and the impact of his early death on the Maratha Empire.
Madhavrao died of TB at the age of 28.
