@Epion1217 Great point. I had considered this. Even if it’s nomadic, it is still in service and accountable and dependent on sedentary society. Tribalism, travel, and distinct culture are present but a mere shadow of the steppe. A superficial imitation.
I think we can make the link between worsening global mental health and the decline of traditional nomadic lifestyles on the Eurasian steppe. Any civilized society should have an “opt out” nomadic option for living.
@bilbosfootcomb@spoonnebula Nah, I’ll take accountability for getting the Perso-Arabic part wrong. I have a pretty rudimentary command over the abjad, and mistook the non-shahada part for Persian because it looked that way to me from the glance I took here. I shouldn’t have been so confident.
@o_sneedy the evidence can speak for itself and still leave some in denial. All of this fatalistic looksmaxxing shit and it was only ever about being a guy worth being close to. I’ve never had to think twice about it.
To everyone checking out my profile: I don't use Twitter, and was only active today to check out some discourse my friends told me about. Alas, despite the fun I had, it remains the house of insecurity, extremism, and parasociality I remember. Find me at @peskovii elsewhere :)
@LinguisticDan@wardinpal I could only read the shahada part which is on almost every Islamic flag with writing. The other part “The sultan is the servant of Allah” I mistook for being Persian because of the script font and my own lack of command over Perso-Arabic literacy (I’m working on it 😭😭)
@AlCabbage045 This is definitely a fuckup on my end. My apologies.
I could read the Shahada clearly and the other part I was confused on. The script is strange and definitely Persianate looking and I couldn’t quite make out anything else besides “Allah” and assumed it was in Persian.
@theelme@MCPlSS@nocertainlynot True. I am very embarrassed that I misread the non-shahada part (or more accurately, couldn’t get a read on it beyond Allah, and assumed it was Persian.)
@xav_moss@creatureRigger@nocertainlynot The way it’s presented, it just took a moment of thinking to figure out Bukhara. The part I could read was the Shahada.
@creatureRigger@nocertainlynot You got me. I could read the shahada clearly, knew the state was Persianate, and couldn’t understand the other side the way it was written and assumed Persian. I meant it to come across humorously uncertain but it didn’t quite come out that way.
@nocertainlynot I am never going to live down the embarrassment of thinking the text next to the Shahada on the Bukhara flag was Persian because I couldn’t really read the script enough to understand it fully and assumed 💔
@Ramtinium@nocertainlynot Yeah I got that wrong. The emirate of Bukhara was Persianate, and when I saw the shahada + the text I couldn’t make out, I thought the part I couldn’t understand was Farsi.
Perso-Arabic is the script. Invented for Arabic, but now used for Persian.
