It’s harvest time.
We have started harvesting our first batch of groundnuts in the farm, by the turnout of things, we’re glad to have a bumper harvest of groundnuts 🥜.
It’s a good season for us!

Eleven Years Later
Eleven years later,
I finally understand.
I understand why
you never stood in the crowd
at my prize-givings,
even though you knew
they were my favorite days.
I understand why
I searched for your face
while holding certificates,
prizes,
and achievements in my hands.
I thought you didn’t see me.
But you did.
You saw the girl
who never needed reminding to study.
The girl who would come home from school
and help her mother work.
The girl who carried responsibility
before she was old enough to understand it.
You saw her.
And because you saw her,
you trusted her.
While others needed encouragement,
you gave me confidence.
While others needed direction,
you gave me freedom.
While others needed watching,
you gave me trust.
I thought your love was absent.
Now I know
it was simply quiet.
Your love was in the uniforms you sewed.
In my braids you made.
In the food you put on the table.
In the sacrifices nobody saw.
Your love was in the way
you never poisoned our hearts
against those who hurt you.
Your love was in the way
you swept the mosque at dawn
and came home without expecting praise.
Your love was in the way
you gave your last to someone in need.
Your love was in every relative you visited,
every neighbor you fed,
every stranger you helped.
And when your time came,
you gave me one final assignment.
“Take care of your sister.”
Hawa Tejanie Fofanah,
I did.
I took care of your daughter.
I loved her.
I protected her.
I stood beside her.
And today,
eleven years later,
I want you to know
she is okay.
We are okay.
Your kindness lives on.
Your lessons live on.
Your love lives on.
In her.
In me.
In everyone fortunate enough
to have known you.
Eleven years later,
I no longer wonder
why you loved us differently.
I understand now.
And if love could speak,
I think it would sound
a lot like you.
Quiet.
Steady.
Selfless.
And unwavering.
Eleven years later,
I still miss you.
But today,
more than anything,
I thank you.
