'Former Transport Secretary Mark Harper was humiliated when a study intended to prove LTNs were hated showed they were popular and effective; reduced driving; had limited adverse impacts on boundary roads; and didn't adversely affect emergency services'.

When we build bigger roads, we get more traffic. Congestion briefly gets better, then the same, then worse. £Billions is spent in the process.
Instead of dualling roads, what if we used the space for active travel instead? Here’s a thread on why it should happen.🧵
This thread really encapsulates the crisis our roads are in and the amazing work @for_birmingham are doing. But being badly let down by a lack of action from those in power.
Birmingham’s leaders may have conceded the city is indeed facing a “road safety emergency”, but this situation has been hiding in plain sight for decades. At every demo @for_birmingham has held, people have talked about their lives being blighted & saddened by dangerous driving
NEW: Birmingham Ciry Council writes to @WMPolice saying a ‘Road Safety Emergency must be declared’
This morning @for_birmingham also said the measure was needed after several deaths of the region’s roads.

The @birmingham_live homepage is filled, as it usually is, with road tragedy.
In the space of a few hours, news of a pedestrian killed on the pavement in Sutton and a driver killed on the A45, metres away from where Azaan Khan, 12, died in June last year.
This is an emergency.
With the sustained trend in those being killed and seriously injured as a result of collisions in Birmingham, we've written to our city and regional leaders urging them to declare a state of emergency on our roads.

Drafting in Boris to win last minute votes in the Midlands and North East seems a really strange move when you’ve spent the whole campaign pretending you’re not a Tory. Am I missing something?

Gosh gosh so Liverpool’s final season under Klopp could end in title glory or could end up mirroring Ten Hag’s first season at Man Utd (3rd and Le Carabao)
