• Drinking your coffee without rushing

• Laughing with people who genuinely get you
• Traveling every year
• Waking up naturally without an alarm
• Eating a home-cooked meal with people you love
• Having time to read a book just because you want to
• Enjoying the little routines you used to take for granted
• Coming home to a pet that’s genuinely excited to see you

The older I get, the less I care about looking rich.

I care about having a life that feels rich.

I told a friend I will never support Shariah law and he said that means I’m not a true Muslim.

So I asked him, which Shariah are you talking about?

The Shariah that forces women to cover up?

The Shariah that allows child marriage, even when a child is too young to understand marriage or give meaningful consent?

The Shariah where people are killed for blasphemy?

The Shariah where someone can be punished or even killed for leaving Islam?

The Shariah that stops women from going to school, driving, working or simply living a normal life?

The Shariah where women can be stoned for adultery?

The Shariah where the poor are punished while the rich use their money and connections to escape punishment?

The Shariah where musical instruments are destroyed because they are considered haram?

If this is the Shariah you want me to defend, then I will never defend it.

I am a Muslim. But being Muslim does not mean I have to defend everything done in the name of Islam.

If I see oppression, I will call it oppression.

If I see injustice, I will call it injustice.

And if you tell me I am not a true Muslim because I refuse to support it, then so be it.

I would rather be called a bad Muslim for questioning injustice than become the kind of Muslim who sees injustice and calls it religion.
