BREAKING: San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama has signed a five-year, $252 million maximum rookie-scale contract extension, with a player option in the fifth season, sources tell ESPN.
A candidate had a two-year gap on his resume.
I asked him about it.
He said he'd taken time off to care for a terminally ill parent.
I smiled and told him that shows incredible empathy, resilience, and dedication. I assured him those are exactly the soft skills we value in our leadership track.
He looked visibly relieved and thanked me for being so understanding.
I nodded and concluded the interview on a warm note.
Then I opened our applicant tracking system and selected "Reject" from the dropdown.
People who've dealt with real life-and-death stakes rarely panic over a missed deliverable.
We can't have that in the company.
Growth changes people.
Over the last decade, we've helped millions of Nigerians save and grow their money.
Along the way, we've watched their financial lives become more than personal.
Businesses were born, teams grew, new ambitions took shape but the tools to support that growth didn't always evolve at the same pace.
We believe they should
And we’ve been building for that💙

For years, @blessinguzzi resisted the idea of building a career behind a camera. Last week, her second feature film, @callofmylife, crossed ₦500 million at the Nigerian box office.
In this conversation, the founder of @bluhousestudios talks about finding her path as a filmmaker, funding her films, and the lessons she's learned from turning creative conviction into both critical and commercial success.

The pain and frustration in this thread are real. And so many of you know exactly how it feels to be the one everyone counts on. Choosing yourself feels wrong, but choosing others drains you.
We have a name for it: Black Tax.
It’s the financial support Black and African income earners provide to their families (including parents, siblings, and even extended relatives). This support often goes beyond occasional gifts and includes necessities such as healthcare, housing, education, and daily living expenses.
According to the Piggyvest Savings Report 2025, more than three in five Nigerian income earners pay black tax. Among those who do, the experience of these commitments varies. Some feel firmly in control of their obligations, while others say it is manageable but sometimes challenging. For a smaller but important group, these commitments feel difficult to sustain or overwhelming altogether.
The cruel irony of black tax is that the more responsible you are, the more it costs you. The more you earn, the more is expected. The more you give, the less anyone asks if you're okay.
It also doesn’t stop when you earn more. Ekene*, a software consultant earning over ₦1 million monthly, tells us he barely has anything left to save at the end of the month, regardless of how well he plans, because both immediate and extended family members depend on him.

If you’re currently burdened by black tax, here are a few things that could help:
- Understand your financial reality
- Always pay yourself first
- Don’t rush into taking up responsibilities
- Create a sustainable black tax budget and stick to it
- Set clear and healthy boundaries, but communicate openly and honestly
- Choose your battles and learn to say no

Remember: You are not an ATM. Caring for people you love and building a life for yourself are not mutually exclusive, but it takes intention.
Adult life is basically:
- Debit alerts
- Budgeting
- Tax conversations
- “Urgent 2k” from family members

@tmony_overt@piggyvest I use Piggybank on Piggyvest to do exactly this. I put 100k there every month, and whenever I receive my monthly Piggybank interest, I move it from Flex to Piggybank immediately so it compounds. Been doing this so far this year, and I hope to keep it running for the next 2 years
