@nickhedley Hi Nick, climate change is real and serious but be careful of these ‘x’ country is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world stats. This is mostly as a result of temperature changes over the ocean being moderated by the oceans heat capacity.
If you are interested in how I am efficiently accessing the GFS forecast data used in these routings. I am giving a short talk on using Kerchunk to access GRIB2 and NetCDF files during the "Bringing Cloud-Native Down to Earth" session at the upcoming @ESIPfed meeting.
Having been involved in the last two editions of the @cape2riorace I've been following this years race closely. However it's always tough to get a sense of who is performing well on handicap.
There are certainly a number of ways the algorithm could be improved on but for now it seems to give similar enough results to @PredictWind, and other routing tools to be a useful starting point.
Come to the combined [Pangeo Showcase](https://t.co/8USx3LlseX) and Community meeting in 1 hour to learn about cloud friendly access patterns for NetCDF and GRIB files, and to stay in the know with what the rest of the community is up to!
@mdsumner I suspect there may be a network or permission error going on. You can try build a new environment by saving this file as env.yml:
https://t.co/8QTtaSF1f2
and running:
conda env create -f env.yml
@mdsumner Hi @mdsumner, I wasn't able to reproduce your error message, but I recommend using conda to install dependencies:
conda install -c conda-forge xarray fsspec s3fs zstandard intake-xarray
I have added this to the blog to help others
I am constantly amazed at the tools available and the speed of innovation in the open-source geospatial space, particularly in the @xarray_dev ecosystem. So to be given the opportunity to contribute towards Kerchunk as a @GoogleOSS Summer of Code Contributor has been amazing#GSOC
🚨 New blog post by @peter_marsh1! Learn about the latest advances enabled by the Kerchunk package. Thanks to @GoogleOSS#GSOC for sponsoring this work. 🙏
