Typically, with inexperienced #coaches, they over coach at the wrong time. Typically, when their team is facing a big challenge or when their athlete is facing a major championship problem, that they will #coach too much. They’ll give too much information, they’ll be too emotional, they’ll be too much in the face of the athlete.
My experience is that #athletes know when the big occasions are coming. They don’t need a coach over-speaking, overcoaching, giving too much information too often. They are only clouding their thinking at that point in time.
So #reversecoaching is the reverse of what most coaches will do instinctively. When the game, when the event, when the target competition is really important – coach less, speak less and the #coach gives less information.
Sport is not their identity https://t.co/4JqmfZXSbb via @YouTube
No matter how talented a child is - sport is something they DO - it's not who they are. It is important that parents / carers, coaches, teachers - do not refer to a child as "the footballer" or "the swimmer" or "the batter" - it's too dangerous! If the child can no longer do that thing or play the sport - it can be harmful to their sense of identity and mental health.

There's an old saying - Give someone a fish and they eat today. Teach them to go fishing and they'll never be hungry again.
Always interesting to me how much money sports spend on facilities, equipment, marketing, promotional activities - then - spend very, very little on #coaches and #coach development.
Coaches ARE your sport. By that I mean they deliver the experience of your sport day to day. They are the people who have the relationships with the parents / carers and kids you're hoping to recruit and retain in your sport. Coaches are the people who can grow your sport - or - if they get it wrong - can be the source of many of the retention issues you are currently facing.
Every dollar you invest in coaches and #coaching is going to return an incalcuable impact on building and growing the sustainable success of your sport.

Aerobic Training ❤️can be boring 🥱 if planned in a boring 🙄 way…
Aerobic Training ❤️ gets a bad reputation because it’s often too hard ‼️
Here are some scribbles to consider when planning Aerobic Training…
Teach why it’s needed, don’t make it exhausting, be creative…
One day you wake up and realize that what you really want out of life is to do what you love doing - (usually what you're good at), in a place you love being and doing it with people you care about and who care about you.
Forget the money - this is what it's all about.
#Coaches we need to change our mindsets from thinking about the athletic potential of the kids we coach to "how can I #inspire this human being in front of me to be all they choose to be?"
I've just returned from New Zealand where I was working a group of coaches who I mentor, and one of the critical messages I teach is - #COACH THE POWER OF CHOICE - i.e. to shift from telling and yelling numbers at kids and calling it #coaching - to presenting them with choices and options, showing them the advantages and benefits of choosing to do things the "hard" way - (or the best or right way if you like) and #coach WITH them - not AT them.
