Americans see sport as entertainment, a fun day out, so it’s natural they’d do something fun like a Mexican wave.
Britons support football as a matter of tribal allegiance. It is serious. Not fun.
It seems to me that the Zadie Smith who wrote Intimations is not at all the same person as the Zadie Smith who wrote Dead and Alive. What’s changed in those five (?) years? Moving back to London?

@siobhanworld@amandaknox I had to visit the mags as a law student. Saw a guy up for stealing nine Crunchie bars. That was somehow so depressing, I’ll never forget the scene.
