In the case of race, it's mainly society that has determined the boundaries.

On the other hand, there is no good argument for why someone should arbitrarily be able to change their legal age.

Sex is not determined by a person's identity. It just is what it is, but gender is all about identity. But this topic is a bit too complicated for a tweet. I'd suggest googling it.

For example, someone who is half-black and half-white may still be seen as and identify as black, even though in some sense, they're just as white as they are black.

And other things, like your age, name, favorite food, nationality etc. are all part of your identity. Identity is really just the way we perceive ourselves, our own image of who we are.

Honestly it's a bit of a tautology, but I'm just bringing it up since someone else here said that gender identity is not real.

If you consider yourself to be a man, then that's your gender identity, and if you consider yourself to be a woman, then that's your gender identity. It's simply about how you view yourself.
