George Alagiah’s passing is such sad news. It was a privilege to have worked with him and shared countless African experiences, most notably in Lusaka in 1990 on the day after Nelson Mandela walked free. An assignment with George meant working with the best. @BBCAlagiah
It’s with a heavy heart that we have had to suspend @BBCNews operations in Russia until we assess impact of new laws which outlaw independent journalism. Thoughts with colleagues in Moscow whose voices cannot be silenced for long.
He did much so more than coin the title The Rainbow Nation. Bishop #DesmondTutu got down and dirty to dig #SouthAfrica's foundations for the new democracy that so disappointed him. He had the most apposite expressions even if is was only a mischievous chuckle. Rest in peace.
