@hippowombat Cut anything that needs a skill you don't already have. Cut anything that needs time you don't already have. Don't consider any concept that you can't already execute. That got Mini Metro out the door and it still took 3 - 4x as long as we'd planned.

@ruby0x1 The binary serialisation works well, but it has no ability to persist between game versions. One change to the model data layout and it's impossible to deserialise. But the simulation itself would likely also have changed and games are short, so it hasn't been a problem yet.

@ruby0x1 Mini Motorways uses 'manual' JSON for persistent player data — high scores, unlocks, options, etc. Mid-game saves use an automatic binary serialiser to export + import the sim data. Sim data is kept separate from the view state to facilitate this.
