John Carpenter told Bong Joon Ho (and everyone at the David Geffen Theater) there’s a hint in the middle of THE THING that reveals whether MacReady or Childs is The Thing by the end of the movie and…
I think I found that hint.

🚨🚨🚨New Vayse!!!🚨🚨🚨
In this ep we talk to the inestimable Sequoyah Kennedy about his work with artificial intelligences, specifically Large Language Models: are they actually intelligent? Are they conscious? Are they ensouled? & does it really matter? Loved recording this!!!
“Is it possible for entities, by which I just mean information organised, to take actions in possibility space that affect the actual?”

One of our favourite organic intelligences, Sequoyah Kennedy, returns to discuss artificial intelligence (1/3)
Are there any non fascist types left on here? Caus it would be really helpful if you could write to your local MP to campaign against the disability cuts Labour have planned, we need to start taxing the super rich, not destroy the poor and unwell. See below for template -
Breaking my boycott for just this one tweet:👇
Fuck JD Vance. Fuck Trump. Acting like fucking bullies in front of the cameras. Bullies are cowards. Zelensky should tell them both to fuck off, and then he should just walk out of the White House.
Utterly despicable, cowardly behavior by Vance & Trump. I’m embarrassed to be an American today.
Trump is doing Putin’s work. Trump works for Putin. Putin is smiling big time right now. I am ashamed to be an American today.
Ukraine, Europe, and the rest of the free world should tell Trump, Vance and the U.S. to fuck off. Trump, Vance & the U.S. are siding with Putin. Trump, Vance and the U.S. are with the Axis of Evil. It is what it is.
Apologies free world. So many Americans, like me, are ashamed today to be Americans.
Slava Ukraini!🇺🇦
@bccamplight I feel this. Also living in Manchester, this winter feels like it’s not ending & spring feels like it’s not coming.Working an intolerably boring & difficult job, trying to stay creative when I’m not too exhausted & writing & making music with my girlfriend when we both have ADHD🫠
-Called a guy a pedo for joking about him
-Bought twitter because the onion joked him
-Fired workers who joked about him
-Banned accounts joking about him
-Sending the justice department after a congressman joking about him

We finally plucked up the courage to talk Fairies, a subject which personally terrifies me, with the wonderful & very not-scary Jo Hickey-Hall, host of my current podcast addiction, the Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast. I really enjoyed this episode 🧚♀️🧚 🧚🏼♂️
“There are dark sides for sure & they can terrify people…”

In this episode we talk to podcaster, researcher & author Jo Hickey-Hall, host of the Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast (@_remain_curious) about all things fairy & frankly terrifying…(1/3)
All the takes are correct and yet they also miss the point.
Yes, it was insane for the Democrats to think they could win by running a soulless candidate, without a shred of progressive policy vision, pursuing endorsements from neocon war-hawks everybody hates, while arming and funding a genocide, and belittling and crushing those who have enough morality to protest it. It is enraging that the Democrats are so smug and blind to this.
But these are all just symptoms. The deeper reality is that liberalism has failed, liberalism is dead, and people urgently need to wake up to this fact and respond accordingly. It is a defunct ideology that cannot offer any meaningful solutions to our social and ecological crises and it must be abandoned.
Democrats have proven over and over again that they cannot accept even *basic* steps like public healthcare, affordable housing, and a public job guarantee - things that would dramatically improve the material, social and political conditions of the working classes. And they cannot accept a public finance strategy that would steer production away from fossil fuels and toward green transition to give us a shot at a liveable future.
Why? Because these things run against the objectives of capital accumulation. And for liberals capital is sacrosanct. They will do whatever it takes to ensure elite accumulation, it is their only consistent commitment. At home, they suppress and demonize progressive and socialist tendencies. Abroad, they engage in endless wars and violence to suppress input prices in the global South and prevent any possibility of sovereign economic development.
The Democrats have done all this purposefully and knowingly, for my whole life, not as some kind of "mistake" but in full consciousness that it is in the interests of capital.
And because liberalism cannot address our crises, and because it crushes socialist alternatives, it inevitably paves the way for right-wing populism. They know this pattern, and yet they risk it every time - this election being only the most recent example. They did it in 2016, when they actively crushed the Sanders campaign and sent Trump to the White House. They do it because ultimately they (and I mean the liberal ruling class here) don't really mind if fascists take power, so long as the latter too ensure the conditions for capital accumulation. They 100% prefer this to the possibility of a socialist alternative.
So, progressives have to face reality. The dream of "converting" the Democratic party is dead. This is now a fact and it must be accepted. The only option is to build a mass-based movement that can reclaim the working classes and mobilize a political vehicle that can integrate disparate progressive struggles into a unified and formidable political force and achieve substantive transformation. This will take real work, actual organizing, but it must be done and that process must begin now.
@quiteunusualpod This scares the shit out of me.
Not just that it can talk so well but that it’s clearly a lot more intelligent and beautiful than many humans (I’ll
Include myself in that!)
