It's relatively safe for crowds to gather in Tehran; US and Israel don't target civilians. On the other hand, the regime is recklessly using cluster munitions on its ballistic missiles, aiming at civilians in Israel and neighbouring countries.
This Canadian lawyer is making it clear which side he is on
@Pagmenzies So Meta, then. Enjoy Portugal; I sailed to Cascais, once. You realize, of course, that even if that was the initial estimated impact (which I doubt), things have adjusted since then - more reliance on other non-Meta platforms, news outlet websites, email blasts etc
@DCNorg@jason_kint Small broadcasters ask CRTC to make Meta pay them under Online News Act
Request was made as laws affecting U.S. digital giants are being discussed in trade talks

We have economies that need to grow, whether or not they make us thrive. Now we need economies that enable us to thrive, whether or not they grow. Here's what I just wrote about it in @guardian 1/2

@Pagmenzies@pablorodriguez What "disinformation", exactly, Peter? Good legislation often, by necessity, casts a wide net. The theoretical horror stories that you are apparently concerned about will not happen.
Sometimes, the view from my window looks like it is straight from a Hallmark Christmas special (and they filmed one nearby recently). I never take it for granted.
Have a peaceful weekend
שבת שלום לכולם!
@Pagmenzies@acoyne …..these are social media people.
Sorry, but….no. No I’m not sorry.
Why the christ does anyone care what some ‘influencer’ with followers thinks? Is there a suggestion they genuinely contribute to Canada’s prosperity?
@acoyne The only problem, Andrew, is that your premise is wrong. Broadcasting regulation is as much a creature of conservative governments as it is liberal. The current, 1991, Broadcasting Act was enacted by the Mulroney Govt. It waa"technologically neutral": bringing in cable services..
It's been a long week, and as Friday evening approaches, I am declaring it to be Miller time... or more accurately Muskoka Cream Ale time.
I'm planning to be off the air until Saturday evening. I hope you understand why I may not respond as quickly as usual

@Mark_Goldberg 5 of 5. AT&T reception (from NB border down to Portland), has been weak/spotty at best. I never had reception problems like this with Rogers when sailing Canadian waters out the St Lawrence and off Que, NB and NS. Conclusion: cost the same, reception in US worse.
@Mark_Goldberg 4 of 5. I decided to get a US SIM card from Verizon for redundancy and phone. I was offered a $40 US NA plan with 5 G data. I found out after I had said yes that that by North America, the representative assumed US only. NA would cost $65. They refused to cancel.
