Pick any Alabanese policy that talks about (insert concern) and it’ll fit under
A. Doesn’t do anything
B. Can’t actually be done or
C. Actively makes things worse.
@googledegreeguy The US election result was because Harris ran to the right on a particularly uninspiring campaign, and folk decided it wasn't worth lining up several hours to vote.

@joe97559604@KosSamaras How are you so sure? Material conditions had far more to do with Harris's defeat than "People blame the incumbent party". https://t.co/6ae2Vsf6Qi
I’mma say the hard thing. Kamala Harris did not lose the election because of racism and misogyny. That was a negligible reason at best. Rashida Talib, Ilhan Omar, and Summer Lee all won their seats in swing states VP Harris lost. Sit with the real reasons why she lost.
@joe97559604@KosSamaras Au contraire. The Democrat vote collapsed - from 80 million in 2020 to 67 million in 2024. A progressive candidate would have inspired more Democrat voters people to vote.
(The Republican vote went down as well - from 74 million to 72 million. Their victory was not inevitable.)
@theoztrucker What if I find the flag boring and derivative, Mike? At least the British Columbian flag reuses the Union Jack in an eye-catching way. The Australian one puts me to sleep.
@Pollytics No, we don't want to be there, but more to the point, we're in little danger of being there. The first sentence ends with the helpful, clarifying phrase "& the community".
A Greens party claiming credit for everything would be walking dead, but I can't see that happening soon.
@andersweekday@GunnerTas In this case, it doesn't matter how the delegates were elected (FPTP or preferential), but how many will work together to get up to 270.
Labor + Greens (263) > LNP + KAP + One Nation (258), but to cross the line, the teams need to get support from some of the indies.
Whatever your thoughts about Jill Stein, it is a mark of unseriousness to ask her to stand down mere days before election day, _after_ the printing of ballot papers.
She couldn't withdraw now even if she wished to. You'd expect a Levin Professor of History at Yale to know that.
@StrewthQueen All the US teams running for the presidency are dogshit, afaik. (There may be a non-crap one, but I wouldn't count on it.) https://t.co/PGHJEDerZt
@MarkAmesExiled@billmckibben Exactly.
From an Australian perspective, the US Greens are useless - no serious attempt to increase representation. But that doesn't mean that she is obliged to withdraw to give votes to Kamala Harris. Especially in Michigan. https://t.co/LZzB1bP26V
@billmckibben Bill: the Australian Greens also do stuff - pass laws, work on local politics, etc. But they have not requested Jill Stein to withdraw from the race.
The Australian Greens - unlike the European Greens -also support Palestine.
I think you've made a faulty generalisation.
I've never thought "Sitting this election out" in 30+ years of voting. The ballot paper almost always offers someone progressive: Aus. Democrats (until mid 00's); Aus. Greens (after mid 00's); the ALP (under someone like Steven Miles); etc.
The US should give that a red hot go.
This is for anyone who cares about the climate and is thinking about voting for Jill Stein or RFK Jr. or sitting this election out.
I get your frustration, but I'm asking you: please don't.
Here's why voting for Harris is the best move 🧵
@btpanko A massive Red vote sink metaphorically - and literally. It's amazing how _low_ much of Florida is - as in mere metres above sea level _low_. "Let's get Republicans into an area vulnerable to climate change" - good work, Ron.
A question for folk like @PollBludger and @kevinbonham and @ndlloyd: is this behavior you would expect from reputable polling companies in Australia? I would expect not.
I have a schoolmate who lives in Montana. He has been getting phone calls purportedly polling him for the presidential election. He stated:
(a) The refuse to identity their organisation; and:
(b) There is no "prefer not to say" option.
That sounds unprofessional and unethical.
It's sad when Americans don't understand their own geography.
Reminds me of the most jarring scenes of "The Deer Hunter". Working class men from Pennsylvania appear to like their deer hunting among the glaciated mountains of Washington state. Different topographies altogether.
You simply can’t make this up any more: Deb Fischer’s new ad open with her saying “Nebraska is a great place to raise families” over images of Vermont and New England. #NESEN
