Have you ever wanted to make your own font? Well I've written something that will hopefully dissuade you from that idea.

It's free to read for the next 48hrs. Enjoy.
I've worked with a ton of designers.
Some are incredible. Seriously, I envy their skill and talent.
Others, not so much.
And the more I pay attention, the more I notice one key characteristic that separates the two:
volume.
Maybe the best designers are more confident, so they naturally put in more effort and produce more work.
But I can't ignore the pattern.
The best designers I've worked with have so many reps in the design gym that they see problems from a completely different angle.
It's an order of magnitude more.
A lot of them come from agencies, where they were forced to practice quantity.
New client, new problem, new constraints, new file, over and over again.
Then they move on and do it all again.
When you look at the files of really talented designers, they're dense.
Tons of iterations, styles, applications, challenges and solutions.
They just keep going.
So if you're a designer just starting out, try to get as much volume as you can.
I always think about Steph Curry shooting a three.
He's taken that shot from every possible spot, in every possible position, so many times that it looks like magic.
It's just reps.
He has built so much muscle memory for the craft that it separates him from the pack.
Design works the same way.
@fabiuix@chalaska Not bashing Contra here, I'm using it for most of my invoices, but $0 fees happens only when clients pay via bank transfer.
Contra takes a cut of about $500 on a $10k invoice as well if clients pay with their credit card. And i'm pretty sure it goes to Stripe...
