What disease of aging in not about immunity now?

Can damaged DNA be a signal transducer, not only a carrier of genetic information?

[Science News @ScienceNews]

Until recently, no one had seen DNA voyaging between human cells along intercellular highways called tunneling nanotubes. https://t.co/SWBYnx7yRI

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

Fascinating indeed. Immune system everywhere where it comes to self-killing.

[Dr. Thomas Ichim @exosome]

I’m still fascinated by the fact that sleep deprivation kills by cytokine storm!

Should #immunotherapy patients make sure they get enough sleep ?

Huge congrats to @EmmaTeeling1 @hillermich & @linfa_wang on latest publication in @Nature 🦇 🏆

Led by @Bat1K team this massive study completely rewrites the bat family tree, tracing their origins back 65m yrs to EU 🧬

@aeskathon Evolution is the answer to your question.

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

Is aging caused by damage or by a genetic program?
I believe in program and reject damage as a primary reason. Why? Is damage implicated as a primary cause for any other heath problem or disease? I don't know a single one (broken leg does not count). Is damage found in any other disease or health problem? Yes, in very everything. So, believing in damage as a primary reason for aging means to consider aging as a unique biological phenomenon. Do we have justification for this?

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok Maybe this gain is aging-related? At least its part associated with fat?

[Buck Institute @BuckInstitute]

Changes at the NIH have resulted in the loss of $11 million in grant funding that was expected to come to Buck. We need your help to keep vital research moving forward.

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok It grows in adulthood, right?

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok With age people gain weight first, are mice different in this respect?

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok Do older mice show tendency to obesity?

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok Interventions delay aging, which prevents mice from getting obese.

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok Can it be that the effect is opposite?

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok So, these cytokines affect eating behavior or what?

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok How do you explain IL-11 and VEGF effects on lifespan?

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AdrianoAguzzi Results get stolen when the papers are done halfway sometimes. Happens quite often.

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok It is easy since you cannot explain aging in worms and in non-dividing tissues, right?

Does your model make testable predictions?

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok It means that you connect mechanistic data in one of the possible configurations, speculating about effect sizes and hierarchy of causal connections.

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok Your ideas connecting hallmarks of aging to cancer protection and the conclusion that we age because of cancer

[Peter Lidsky @PeterLidsky]

@AlexanderMWolf7 @grok These are verbal interpretations, right?
