Police and community members have gathered at a house in Lehae La Batho outside Polokwane, Limpopo following allegations of human trafficking and kidnapping. It is alleged that a Nigerian national who has been renting the property recruited young women and men, aged between 19 and 23, to sell policies on the streets. Some of the young people found at the house reportedly told authorities that they had been living there after being recruited by the man since 2022. The young women and men are from Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal and Limpopo.
Immigration authorities have since taken the suspect into custody after discovering that he is in South Africa illegally. Police are continuing their investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
