@aaronwojack and I made a film about one of my favorite people and artists, @windychien. Edited by Auston Marek. I interviewed her on a range of topics, from her childhood, to her business practices, to her philosophy on art and craft.

@maxdubler I don't think it's wrong to dissect or analyze photography (or the consequences of it) at all. I think it's important to remember that we all have assumptions and the challenge of making images that will accompany stories is that they can't tell you who people really are.
@hanloveyoon You are absolutely not being too sensitive. It's your sensitivity that makes you so good at what you do. The hope for appreciation and being treated with dignity and respect is critical. The expectation of it can lead to sadness, and that sadness is normal.
Ominous words from Putin about a “natural and necessary cleansing of the nation” to “spit out like flies” all representatives of a fifth column and “traitors” who do not back the Kremlin line. No wonder thousands are leaving the country in fear.
It’s time for once and for all acknowledge that fixers are essential workers for western media outlets. Covering conflicts wouldn’t be possible without them. The precarious work conditions and no bylines for them should end ASAP
@infoglut@maxdubler@nextdoorsv I'll add that I agree with Max that perception plays a role in how stories are read, and that photographers have a responsibility to consider this. The labeling here though, which is not a critical analysis as much as an uninformed opinion, isn't helpful.
@infoglut@maxdubler@nextdoorsv In addition to that, my job isn't to flatter people any more than it is to make them look "villainous." I show up with curiosity and respect. Noon sun outside is never ideal, especially when working with limited time.
@maxdubler I will add that we photographed at that time of day because that's when Phil wanted to meet. He also didn't want to be photographed indoors because of a concern about COVID. I was also feeling a bit rusty. The suggestion that I chose to make him look "villainous" is incorrect.
@maxdubler Hi, Max. I was forwarded this thread by a friend. There's a lot I could say about this, but I'll keep it to this- I find it disappointing that you would tear me down without tagging me. This also seems like a form of violence, though a minor one in the scheme of the world.
As we consider replacing @GavinNewsom with a more libertarian leader over handling of Covid (I guess), worth knowing that CA's per capita Covid deaths are ~21% below FL's, & ~16% below TX's. Translates into >10,000 Californians alive due to our performance.https://t.co/dsUktIdsSd
