Meet Sylvia Mulinge: a Kenyan corporate titan who proves your degree doesn’t limit your destiny.

Graduating from the University of Nairobi with a degree in Food Science and Technology, Sylvia initially began her career in 2004 managing laundry brands for Unilever. However, her unmatched knack for business soon led to a massive career pivot. In 2006, she joined Safaricom, where her brilliant strategies and leadership rapidly propelled her up the corporate ladder, earning her a well-deserved spot on Kenya’s "Top 40 Women Under 40" list by 2014.

But every great success story has its hurdles. In 2018, Sylvia was appointed CEO of Vodacom Tanzania, a massive career milestone only to face a frustrating public setback when Tanzanian authorities denied her a work permit. Instead of letting this roadblock defeat her, she returned to Safaricom with even more drive, adapting and thriving as their Chief Customer Officer. Her ultimate vindication came in October 2022 when she was appointed CEO of MTN Uganda. Sylvia's phenomenal bounce-back from a blocked promotion to leading the largest telecom company in Uganda is a masterclass in resilience, grit, and corporate excellence!

This club of young Rotarians chartered in 2021 is doing great work while also honoring The Rotary Foundation with their giving.
