29-year-old Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi will face 74 lashes after an appeals court upheld her sentence for performing and publishing an online concert without wearing the mandatory hijab.

Ahmadi was also sentenced to a two-year ban on artistic activities and a two-year ban on leaving Iran.

Ahmadi performed without a hijab and sang solo alongside male musicians before an empty venue.

Iranian authorities subsequently detained Ahmadi and members of her team and prosecuted them for “offending public decency” through the production and publication of content authorities described as “vulgar and immoral.”
