Social scientist in @RTI_Intl's Communication Practice Area. @UNCpublichealth grad. Teach focus group workshops at UNC's @Odum_Institute. Opinions my own.

3⃣ Social support shapes behavior. Approval from family and friends predicted intent. Public health programs that ignore stigma and social context leave a lot of effectiveness on the table. https://t.co/2kGDz3FMXh
CDC is screening passengers for Ebola again. Worth revisiting what our CARE+ evaluation by @RTI_Intl colleagues and I found during the 2014–2016 epidemic: trust, clarity, and the right tools mattered more than mandates in getting travelers to follow monitoring requirements.
Consumers are questioning the role of ultra-processed foods in their diets, and regulatory change may be on the horizon. Learn what’s driving the skepticism, how the food industry is adapting, and where innovation is creating opportunity.

Are PFAS from air fryers a real food safety risk?
In a recent appearance on Tamron Hall Show, Imari Walker-Franklin, Ph.D. put current headlines into scientific context, explaining what PFAS are, how they’re used, and what the evidence actually shows about potential exposure from cookware and other everyday sources.
Her insights helped clarify the science behind #PFAS — often called “forever chemicals” — and why ongoing research and careful risk assessment matter as this topic gains attention.

At @RTI_Intl, we evaluated NC S.A.F.E., North Carolina's campaign that both promotes safe firearm storage and respects gun owners' rights. With more funding, NC S.A.F.E. could boost safe storage and prevent injuries and deaths, especially among children. https://t.co/ZT5klTqCzn
An unlocked gun is a tragedy waiting to happen. There’s no reason to compromise your family’s safety — lock your gun every time.

The questions are urgent. The work is complex.
This year showed what happens when rigorous evidence meets real-world need. The future will be defined by how boldly we apply science to what comes next.

Here's a post outside my @RTI_Intl work & about my side life as a sports photographer. Before the Duke at UNC basketball game, I put a remote camera up in the catwalk. With the postgame court storming, I was able to get this great photo of the fans on the court after the win.
Today is the 5th anniversary of the release of the infamous #Lawyercat video, which I posted roughly thirty minutes after the start of the second impeachment trial. Who would have thought it would have such a lasting impact on the world! Happy Lawyercat Day for all who celebrate!
I am grateful to Sens. Budd and Tillis, members of North Carolina’s Congressional delegation, and acting FEMA Administrator Evans for meeting with Sen. Corbin, Mayor Manheimer, and me today in Washington, D.C. and for their work to help western NC rebuild. I look forward to continuing to work in strong bipartisan partnership with leaders at every level to make sure western North Carolina is not forgotten.
We at @RTI_Intl have been proud to help the State of North Carolina evaluate the NC S.A.F.E. project. It was very rewarding to work on a project with a local impact. NC S.A.F.E. has shown great promise to encourage safer gun storage among gun owners. https://t.co/s63omHE1qU
