The most dangerous moment is right after you win.
You did it. You made the money. You quit your job. You built the physique. You got the girl. Now what? Most people let themselves decline into misery because their driving force has now vanished.
You need another mountain to climb. You need to understand that it is a gift, not a curse, to always be in the pursuit of your potential - the constant balance of challenge and skill is what makes life meaningful. There is no final top of the mountain.
Winning isn't what makes you feel good. Growth makes you feel good.
Sometimes they are the same thing. When you achieve something for the first time, it's growth. You've reached a new level. The win feels satisfying. But when you do it for the tenth time (or the hundredth time), it can feel stale. You're still winning, but you're not necessarily growing.
The secret is not to worry about winning, but rather to focus on growing. And the most straightforward way to grow is to learn something. If you're ever feeling stuck, go learn something new. Read, write, think, learn, repeat.
When you're learning, you're growing.
It takes everyone a different amount of time to realize you’re not the exception. You’re the rule. And when you follow it, you become the exception.
Do so much volume it would be unreasonable for you to fail.
Beyond learning the foundations, your highest impact knowledge comes from personal experience and engagement.
Doing is better than watching another video or reading another post.
Let them inspire you to walk down a path and then see it through for yourself.
A lot of the time you’ll, frankly, get scammed but what they can’t take away from you is your resilience and internal belief that this is worth pursuing… because it is.
The ROI of trading and investing is so massive that it doesn’t even resemble reality as you know it.
Never give up if it’s something you’re passionate about.
Retail traders have legit disadvantages against institutions, we know this.
The advantages are very real too though, and many people look past them.
One of our biggest advantages is being nimble, anything is a button click away. Don’t handcuff yourself to a bias and eliminate one of your strongest edges - mobility.
Also we can wait for our pitch. A desk trader has to show up and produce daily. We can look at a choppy tape and simply do nothing. The lack of pressure to perform daily is a true edge. We can show up only when the deck is stacked in our favor.
We can size down when conditions are rough and scale back up when they improve, the list goes on.
The worst thing you can do with a small account is trade like an institution. Our freedom of operation is our biggest advantage, use it.
Learn to love the interruptions. Find the fun in the delay, the humor in the challenge, the pleasure in the daily commute.
A great deal of life is spent dealing with interruptions and waiting for the conditions to turn. We think, "If I can just get past this, then things will open up." But the interruption is not standing between you and your life. It is your life.
Yes, I prefer hassle-free days too. But you'll rarely find a situation that is all bad. There are little pockets of joy folded inside the annoyances we face. There is always fun to be had, if you go looking for it.
This is one of the arts of living. It's the art of enjoying the imperfect days. It's the art of making all the moments count.
Buy day and upside BO in SI (also GC) etc plays out overnight. Said this before and will say again, the start of the daily bar is in evenings with Asia opening. For holding periods of 2-4 days, there is a huge edge in initiating in Asia, even Europe session...
Having a playbook, a system that you have stats on and run successfully, is like having a spouse that you love and are loyal to.
Just because you go to the corner store and see a hot 20yo, you're not going to compromise your relationship just because they're sexy and available.
Deviating from your playbook to buy some random low cap shitter or counter trend trade some wild move is like cheating on your system.
"Why focus on the process when the world is outcome driven? Don’t results matter?
Yes, results do matter. But if you optimize for the outcome, you win one time.
If you optimize for a process that leads to great outcomes, you can win again and again."
@LindaRaschke
Haters are a fixed cost of life.
If you do anything, people will criticize you.
If you do nothing, people will criticize you.
So you might as well do something you love enough to be hated for.
5 things worth protecting:
1. Your sleep
2. Your circle
3. Your word
4. Your attention
5. Your calendar
Give any of these away cheap and you'll feel it.
Whatever you do, don’t be the guy who gives up at the exact moment when you should be fighting with everything you have.
You’ll make it through either way, but there’s only one way you’ll look back and be proud of yourself.
Believe it or not, there are some of us who aren't striving to win a "competition" or rack up as many 0's in a bank account as humanly possible.
For many the main goal is owning our time; our most truly valuable resource.
You can't screenshot that. It's for you and you only.
The money chase isn't the meaning, the time is. The money is just the tool.
