After living/traveling in Western Europe and living with Europeans, I have some thoughts on the AC stuff…

I don’t think their resistance to AC is to spite Americans. I also don’t believe climate concerns are the real reason.

IMO, Western European culture is holding a ton of collective shame that has led people to resist material abundance.

Many East Asian countries also had various concerns about AC. See: fan death, natsubate etc. However, as places have become wealthier, people have adopted AC. They realize the energy concerns are minuscule compared to heatwave deaths.

I understand that Western Europe doesn’t get as hot as Asia, but you’d think they’d come around by now…
