Hopelessly devoted to Midwestern powerpop and indie punk. On repeat: Green, Material Issue, Naked Raygun, Cheap Trick, Lilacs, Shoes, Smoking Popes, et alia.
While the rock mainstream keeps moving, Scott Lucas and @LocalH have maintained their vision and power. With a @musicboxtheatre premiere and @MetroChicago show next week, Lucas has much to say about bands, labels and the meaning of success on @Caropopcast. https://t.co/tm5IaPJDor
We’re deeply saddened to hear of Steve Albini’s passing and keep his family in our hearts. Thank you for all that you contributed to punk rock in our town and the reverberations of creativity you brought forth, felt the world over.
Steve Albini's #1 priority was to protect and preserve an artist's vision--and you can't preserve it forever digitally so he kept working with tape. It's no wonder his @Caropopcast episode remains by far the most downloaded one. We've lost a tremendously talented, thoughtful guy.
Two great artists in @Suntimes: "Jon Langford art exhibit at Tony Fitzpatrick’s studio a full-circle moment; Langford says Fitzpatrick instilled in him the confidence that art could be more than a hobby for the Chicago-based punk rocker." https://t.co/srBD8YPAsu
We’ve been pretty quiet this year — but that’s all about to change. December tour starts tomorrow in Chicago at the Aragon with @theblackkeys and @alexsucksband. Let’s send 2023 out on a rail!
Set your DVRs for Michael Shannon & Jason Narducy (@SplitSingleband) doing their indie valentine on @LateNightSeth. Rock n roll polymath @dagjuhlin joins the fun.
Consider supporting the gofundme for the film Melomaniac, which chronicles and celebrates Aadam Jacobs, who chronicled and celebrated the Chicago indie music scene of the 80s and 90s. https://t.co/mQq7rzTUwI
On the one year anniversary of his death, let's take a moment to consider the influence of the great Cliff Johnson. His smoky voice and quirky melodies in Off Broadway and Pez Band helped invent Midwest powerpop.
