@FatFellWalker We had a couple of wee holidays in cottages in South Shropshire a few years ago, the last one in the village of Little Stretton. Two fabulous pubs, The Ragleth and The Green Dragon, a short stroll away. Great beer and food set in beautiful countryside.

@DavidHenigUK Another odd thing, at least to me, is her claim that she "sacked" unnamed civil servants. I don't think Ministers have the right to simply dismiss civil servants - they aren't, quite rightly, employed by them unless they are appointed advisors.

@exitthelemming I think he is right in some ways but the arts shouldn't be just a balm - they weren't in the 60s, at least not solely. They should be a means of expressing and telling stories about aspects of society - including its divisions and ugliness - that prompt change.

@PhilipRalph9 @ObserverUK Interesting points, of course, but I find the three "dramas" he refers to unwatchable and have done for years, long before the arrival of streaming platforms. Could another factor be the long-term decline in quality on the terrestrial stations, BBC & ITV?
