@StormPath1989@TruthHolder2023 Pres. Nelson's talk in 2018 specifically called out "LDS" and the Handbook discourages its use. As I've avoided using it, I feel less like a member of a subculture, and it feels more like we're talking about what it really is: it is the Church, and it belongs to Jesus Christ.
@_sky_sorensen_ Clunky isn't necessarily bad. I tried to find a short, memorable way to refer to the church without using "LDS" or "Mormon." I couldn't. It made me think that that's by design. It's not bad to be a bit more verbose if it preserves doctrinal meaning.
@JoahFussell Do the other members know how to have effective meetings and collaborate digitally? If not, don't expect them to think/behave the way you or your work colleagues do, even after months of training. Teach and exemplify Handbook 4.4, and keep it simple.
When I ask for the Spirit to guide me in teaching the gospel, I'm almost always led to use a softer tone than I originally wanted to. That doesn't mean the Lord has gotten soft on commandments, obedience, etc. It means He has a different way of teaching it than we do. #SaintsOnX
I had a good experience with @ProtonVPN's free tier in the past, so I recommended it to someone recently. Now it forces a random country, limits your ability to change servers, and is too annoying at pushing the user to upgrade. Very disappointing and harder to recommend now.
@Ephraimite_98 There's understandable excitement about hastening the work, but sometimes we fall into wanting "to hear some new thing" (Acts 17:21). Pres. Nelson called out irreverence at temple announcements and suggested prayerful reflection instead. We can do the same with other changes.
@Local_man2479 Some members claim to have their family tree back to Adam and Eve. This is untrue. We just don't have the records for that yet. We should encourage members to find joy in family history work without exaggerating our capabilities.

@_maryrichards@the_churchnews Hi! I'd love to write for Church News or Newsroom. Grew up fluently bilingual, been writing since I was six, have done paid writing as an adult, and happy to provide samples. Can you point me in the right direction? The Deseret News jobs site doesn't have any openings.
Thanks.🙂
@ATrueMillennial One of my favorite things is to see new/strengthening members do something "not quite right" at church. Because it means they're trying and learning.
I am convinced that, on judgment day, God will care more about how obedient we were to our Church leaders than about how right we were to question them. #SaintsOnX
This is a great story. And I think there's an important distinction to make here.
Let's be clear: her mom was not in a position of stewardship to receive revelation about what her call should or should not be. She would have had no authority to tell the Bishop "God told me I'm not supposed to be in this position, so put me somewhere else."
HOWEVER it would have been completely appropriate to say:
"Bishop, just so you're aware, I've had strange unsettled feelings ever since I was called. Do with that information what you will; I will cheerfully serve wherever you want."
I get the impression that @MamaTexan's Mom ("Gramma Texan?" 😉) went with that latter, humbler approach. Good on her!
@defense_of_fam Quotes, quotes, and more quotes. (Pres. Christofferson's October 2009 talk and June 2025 religious educators devotional.) The phrase "Agency becomes meaningless" struck me.
@FaithLikeAbish2@JeanineElsholz Good for you! Pres. Nelson called out "LDS" in his Oct. 2018 talk. It's also mentioned in Handbook 38.8.34 and the style guide (https://t.co/xL3VoPw8Km). I feel that it helps us stop identifying as a subculture, and more as what Christ has called us to be.
