Our final speaker in Panel 3 is Beverley Thomas, a full time second year PhD researcher based within the School of English at the University of Sheffield, presenting on "Loose Connections - Identity. Trauma
and Double Consciousness"

Beverley is doing a creative writing doctorate with a critical piece, and has been published in the magazine - Bad Form 2021. Her poetry has been published in the Dream Catcher’s Magazine, and exhibited in the ‘Being Human’ national festival November 2021.

Abolafia’s primary research interests include mass incarceration, race and ethnicity, and the emancipatory power of literacy.

Next speaker is Jessica Abolafia, who received her B.A. in English and African-American Studies from the College of New Jersey, and is a graduate student working towards her M.A. degree in English at the College.

She has instructed a writing-workshop at the only women’s maximum-security prison in New Jersey, and is currently co-editing the memoir of an incarcerated woman sentenced to life in prison as a teenager.
