UPDATE: At approximately 11:15 PM on 5/12/23, officers responded to a welfare check on an individual in a vehicle in the Seven Palms Apartment complex. Officers determined that the individual was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound that was not self-inflicted.
School Resource Officers have determined the origin of the post and there is no threat to Charlotte High School. We will continue to have additional officers at the school for the remainder of the week just as an extra precaution and to ensure our students and staff feel safe.
We are aware of the threat that has been circulating on social media referencing "CHS" and are actively investigating. Anyone with additional information about this threat or the individual that posted it should call 941-639-4111.
UPDATE: Detectives have confirmed that Gracelyn Rose Pierce is a runaway and that there was no foul play. If you have any information on her whereabouts, please contact the police department at 941-639-4111.
The men and women of the Punta Gorda PD extend our deepest sympathies to our brothers and sisters with the Fort Myers PD and the people of Fort Myers on the passing of Chief Derrick Diggs. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and his community.
The Punta Gorda Police Department is currently conducting an investigation at a residence in the area of East Helen Avenue. Schools and daycares in the area are being placed on a precautionary lockdown, however, there is no direct threat to the schools, students, or staff.
