Our Church Almost Split Because of One Empty Seat

Every Sunday the front row belonged to Mama Grace

Nobody questioned it

For over twenty years she arrived before everyone else

One Sunday she came late because she had taken her sick neighbor to the hospital

When she entered the church, another woman was sitting in her usual seat

What should have ended with a simple apology became a heated argument

Voices were raised

Families picked sides

People stopped speaking to one another

Some members even left the church

Months later our pastor preached a message nobody expected

He carried an ordinary plastic chair to the altar

Then he asked

"If this chair can separate people who claim to love Christ, maybe the problem isn't the chair"

The church was silent

That afternoon the two women hugged each other with tears in their eyes

Neither of them could remember how the argument had even started
