She is working under the supervision of Professor Phanindra Goyari (@phanin12). Her doctoral committee members are Professor Prajna Paramita Mishra and Dr. S. Limakumba Walling.

UoH Economics Alumnus Dr. Cyril Philip Appointed as Assistant Professor of Economics in Christ University
We are very happy to inform everyone that Dr. Cyril Philip (an alumnus of the School of Economics University of Hyderabad) has been appointed as an Assistant Professor in Economics in the Department of Economics at the Christ University (Deemed to be University), Bangalore Central Campus. He already formally joined the Christ University few days ago.
Dr. Cyril Philip earned his PhD degree in Economics from School of Economics, University of Hyderabad in 2024. He completed his PhD thesis under the guidance of Prof. S. Sandhya (Retired) and Prof. Phanindra Goyari.
After completing PhD and prior to his current role, Dr Philip gained valuable instructional experience as a visiting faculty member at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad, and the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Hyderabad. His primary research focuses on the impacts of health insurance and universal child immunization. Dr. Philip has actively contributed to his field, with publications in reputed journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science (Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)).
Dr. Cyril Philip is very happy and is very grateful to the University of Hyderabad. Prof. Phanindra Goyari from School of Economics University of Hyderabad has successfully completed the teaching of a GEC (General Education Course) on "Economics: A Short Introduction" during this semester. This is a course offered to non-economics students of the University of Hyderabad as a GEC (General Education Course) under the NEP 2020. This course was designed, developed, and taught by Prof. Phanindra Goyari (@phanin12), first time in 2025. It is managed by LearX portal of CDLRT of UoH.
This course is designed in such a way that non-Economics students will be able to learn what is economics and meanings of various concepts in economics in a very convenient way. Course is offered via recorded videos. It has 3 credit points. It has 3 Modules. Each Module has 5 Units. So, there are 15 units in 3 modules. Each unit has a video of about 30 minutes. It has about 20 recorded videos.
After the successful completion of the course, a non-Economics student will be able to:
(1) Understand the meaning/usefulness of economics, and various definitions of economics,
(2) Know the basic and elementary economic concepts in day to day life,
(3) Explain microeconomics vs macroeconomics, economic growth vs economic development, internal trade vs international trade, trade bloc,
(4) Describe various factors of production, features and the meaning of short run & long run in production processes,
(5) Analyze the national income accounting concepts like GDP, GNP, NNP, depreciation etc.,
(6) Compare different kinds of markets (perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly, monopolistic competition and so on), their features and differences among them,
(7) Recognize economy, economic systems (capitalism, socialism, mixed), their features and merits/demerits, features of Indian economy.
This GEC has been offered twice till now, 1st time during Jan-May 2025 and 2nd time during Jan-May 2026 with very good responses from non-Economics students across various Departments/Centres/Schools of University of Hyderabad. As per the UoH rules, a maximum of only 120 students can take this course in a semester.

Economics Alumnus Dr. Pratap Kumar Jena Appointed as Associate Professor of Economics in Central University of South Bihar
We are very happy to inform everyone that Dr. Pratap Kumar Jena (an alumnus of the School of Economics University of Hyderabad) has been appointed as an Associate Professor in Economics in the Department of Economic Studies and Policy at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya, under the direct recruitment. Dr. Jena joined the CUSB on 18-05-2026 (Monday).
Before joining the CUSB, Dr. Jena was working as an Assistant Professor of Economics on a regular basis at the North Odisha University (now known as Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University), Baripada, where he actively involved in postgraduate teaching, research, guiding research scholars, and contributing to interdisciplinary research activities. He also worked at GITAM University, Vishakhaptnam and Central University of Karnataka after completion of his PhD degree.
Dr. Pratap Kumar Jena obtained his three degrees (MA Economics 2005-2007, MPhil Economics 2008-2009, and PhD Economics 2009-2014) from the School of Economics University of Hyderabad. He completed his MPhil degree under the supervision of Prof. Phanindra Goyari. He completed his PhD thesis under the guidance of Prof. Phanindra Goyari (@phanin12) and Prof. Debashis Acharya. His doctoral research focused on the impact of financialization and international price transmission on commodity prices in India.
Dr. Jena has successfully completed several externally funded research projects sponsored by ICSSR, NHRC, the Government of Odisha, and the IoE, University of Hyderabad. His research interests include broad areas of Applied Macroeconomics, Econometric Modelling, Forest Economics and Indian Economy. He has published extensively in reputed national and international journals, authored books and edited scholarly books on sustainability, macroeconomics, and forest-based livelihoods.
Dr. Jena is very happy and is very grateful to the University of Hyderabad. Every student did excellent presentation of research work. Every presentation was an improvement over the first and second presentations. All presenters discussed their own results and analysis.

(25-09-2024): We had the great honour to host the visit of Professor Ruslan Galiakhmetov, PhD, Professor and Deputy Dean for International Relations, Institute of Economics, Management and Finance, Kazan Federal University, Kazan in Russia, to our School of Economics University of Hyderabad. Prof. Ruslan Galiakhmetov visited the School of Economics University of Hyderabad for useful discussions on academic exchange programmes and collaborative research agenda on economics and related areas. Prof. Ruslan was led by Prof. Bramanandam Manavathi (Director, Office of International Affairs, UoH) and Prof. Arvind Susarla (Associate Director, OIA, UoH).
