@Mikhailbgood@ITRConnor@BruinsBenders And to be clear, it's not just Europe, last successful US pick was Lohrei six years ago (though Hagens probably breaks that), and before that... probably Swayman being a ridiculously good pick in the 4th round. If anything, Bruins don't really target the CHL
@Mikhailbgood@ITRConnor@BruinsBenders Literally just Vladar I would call successful, I'll give you that one, but that's about it. So congrats, it's 2015 and not 2014... happy? That's still 11 years.
@Mikhailbgood@BruinsBenders@ITRConnor a) If getting a third rounder to be barely an NHLer is a success to you, cool, but I don't really call that success.
b) The Bruins success rate has been bad regardless of where they've drafted their players from. Has nothing to do w/ Europe specifically.
@Mikhailbgood@ITRConnor@BruinsBenders Vladar barely played for the Bruins but fair. Vaak tho is a fringe 6th-7th defensemen who is barely in the NHL as a FRP, Lauko is whatever... He wasn't a good NHL player either... It's impressive I guess you got 60 games out of him one year... Am I supposed to be amazed by that?
@smittcity@ITRConnor@BruinsBenders I think rather than location, it's more important to just bring in a better scouting staff... that probably doesn't happen until Sweeney is gone though tbh.
@smittcity@ITRConnor@BruinsBenders Vaak is a bust, he's a fringe NHL defenseman who you drafted 18th.
Round 1-2 busts (not including 2022 to the present)
EUR busts: Vaakanainen, Andersson, Zboril, Lysell
For NA busts, Senyshyn, Studnicka Beecher
Also Jacob Forsbacka Karlsson, who idk which to label him as.
@Mikhailbgood@ITRConnor@BruinsBenders a) We haven't had a successful European draft picks since Pastrnak 12 years ago under a different GM. That is an issue. Even NA draft picks it's brutal post 2017.
b) PJ Axelsson was the guy who came up whenever I looked up who recommended a bust from Europe, not Svensson tbh.
@ITRConnor@BruinsBenders The last four or five still have a chance to be something but overall, it's a pretty brutal group... I also didn't have room for Vladar there, not that it really makes the group any better.
@ITRConnor@BruinsBenders None, basically. I guess I should also mention Vladimir Sobotka was good, although he wasn't much in Boston. Since Pastrnak though the notables are Urho Vaakanainen, Axel Andersson, Jakub Lauko, Fabian Lysell, Dans Locmelis, Loke Johansson, Liam Pettersson, and Vashek Blanar.
@TheProspectDon Would have to be a draft year like 2026's where a winger is the top pick... and then more importantly, it would have to be the best goaltender prospect we've seen pretty much ever... like hypothetically let's say a 17 y/o goalie was so good that he was in the KHL and dominating.
@AndrewVan@ZachGarbarino@JesseRogersESPN@JeffPassan As far as I can tell the only teams that are over in 2027 when the cap actually kicks in is the Dodgers and the Mets might be over too... Not 100% sure.
