For over a century, ATL has been home to countless leaders & organizations that have worked to advance civil rights & racial equity. Still, as ATL leads the nation as a welcoming location with a rich Black community; systemic racism, immobility & inequity are all too prevalent.
This new effort will accelerate racial equity by leveraging the size and scale of our business community, and the power of collective impact. Together we will generate meaningful change, dismantle systemic racism and make our community – and world – a better place.
This month, we will honor not just those who have paved the road and inspired millions but also recognize the next generation of #BlackExcellence and how they're shaping our society today.
Since 1976, each president of the United States has designated February as #BlackHistoryMonth .
The origin of Black History Month can be traced even further back to 1915, when an organization called the ASALH, led by Harvard-educated historian Carter G. Woodson was formed.
Today, #BHM is celebrated to remember the people who have enriched the community with knowledge, pride, & respect. We recognize the contributions, struggles, & history of African Americans, & reflect on the idea that Black History is at the heart of American history.
