I’m @PharmMnemonicsRx — P◯ PharmD candidate who used to blank on every drug… until I built these mnemonics
Here are the 12 mnemonics that carried me through pharmacology (and still save me on rotations)

1. Beta-blocker selectivity
“You have 1 heart (beta-1), 2 lungs (beta-2)”
→ Drugs ending in -LOL = beta-1 selective
(Atenolol, Metoprolol, Bisoprolol, Esmolol, Acebutolol, Nebivolol)
2. CYP inhibitors (the ones that actually matter)
“PC BRAS KEG”
Protease inhibitors → Cimetidine → Bactrim → Ritonavir → Azoles → Sulfa → Ketoconazole → Erythromycin → Grapefruit
3.CYP inducers
“SARB PCP”
Smoking → Alcohol → Rifampin → Barbiturates → Phenytoin → Carbamazepine → Polycyclic hydrocarbons
5.Loop diuretics
“BumETazide hits the Thick ascending limb”
→ Bumetanide, Ethacrynic acid, Torsemide, Furosemide
6.Insulin timing made stupid simple
“Love → Regular meal → NPH night → Glargine flat”
Lispro/Aspart = 15 min onset
Regular = 30 min
NPH = 2–12 h
Glargine/Detemir = no peak
7.Vancomycin trough
“Vanc Before Lunch”
→ Draw 30–60 min BEFORE the next dose
8.ACE inhibitor side effects
“CAPTOPRIL”
Cough → Angioedema → Potassium↑ → Taste changes → Obstetric risk → Pressure↓ → Renal issues → Idiosyncratic → Leukopenia
9.Warfarin vs Heparin monitoring
Warfarin = Extrinsic → PT/INR
Heparin = Intrinsic → aPTT
10. Aminoglycoside toxicity
“Very Nasty Bugs”
Vestibular → Nephrotoxic → Neuromuscular block
11. Anticholinergic toxicity
“Hot as a hare, blind as a bat, mad as a hatter, red as a beet, dry as a bone”
12.These literally saved my life in school

Foods to Limit or Avoid
• High-sodium items → (processed meats, canned soups, pizza, chips).
• Sugary foods/drinks → (soda, sweets).
• Excessive red/processed meats.
• Alcohol.
Always consult a healthcare provider before major dietary changes, especially if on medication. Combined with exercise and weight management, these foods can significantly lower blood pressure in weeks.
Best foods for hypertension patients
Managing hypertension (high blood pressure) effectively involves dietary changes, with the DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) widely recommended by experts like the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), Mayo Clinic, and American Heart Association.
This eating plan emphasizes nutrient-rich foods high in potassium, magnesium, calcium, and fiber, while limiting sodium (ideally to 1,500–2,300 mg/day).
Top Foods to Include:
These foods help relax blood vessels, reduce sodium retention, and improve heart health:
• Leafy greens (spinach, kale, Swiss chard): Rich in potassium, magnesium, and nitrates that convert to nitric oxide for vessel relaxation.
• Berries (blueberries, strawberries): Packed with antioxidants (like flavonoids) that support blood vessel function.
• Bananas and other potassium-rich fruits (oranges, avocados, melons): Help counter sodium’s effects.
• Beets and beet juice: High in nitrates for natural blood pressure reduction.
• Beans, lentils, and legumes: Provide fiber, potassium, and magnesium.
• Nuts and seeds (almonds, pumpkin seeds): Sources of healthy fats and magnesium.
• Fatty fish (salmon, mackerel): Omega-3s reduce inflammation.
• Low-fat dairy (yogurt, milk): Calcium aids blood pressure regulation.
• Whole grains (oats, brown rice): Fiber helps with weight and heart health.
6) 🔄 BALANCE IS THE GOAL: Your BP Summary
Your heart is the pump and your arteries are the pipes. Hypertension risks long-term damage like heart attacks or strokes, often without you even knowing. Hypotension risks immediate system failure and fainting because your brain isn't getting enough oxygen.
Health is interconnected. For instance, chronic pain is a comorbid condition frequently associated with hypertension, proving that managing one aspect of your health often helps another.
Don't guess—measure. A simple test can be the difference between a healthy life and a medical emergency. If your numbers are consistently outside the 120/80 range, please see a healthcare provider.

5) 💊 Managing the Pressure: Normal vs. Pregnancy
1. Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
In a normal population, the goal is to prevent long-term damage to organs.
• General Medications: Lisinopril Losartanor
Amlodipine
• During Pregnancy:
• Methyldopa
• Labetalol
• Nifedipine
2. Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure)
• General Management: * Lifestyle: Increasing salt and fluid intake.
• midodrine may be used.
• Positioning: Pregnant women are advised to sleep on their left side to prevent the heavy uterus from compressing the vena cava, which can drop BP.
• Fluids: Aggressive hydration is the primary treatment.
• Medication: Rarely used unless there is an underlying emergency
LET’S TALK ABOUT V@GINAL DRYNESS — IT’S MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK
Ladies, let’s normalize conversations about our intimate health. V@ginal dryness is something many women quietly struggle with — but it’s nothing to be ashamed of.
POVERTY MAKES YOU AGE FASTER, And science agrees.
Ever seen someone go through too much too soon?
Poverty doesn’t just drain pockets, it wears down the body like sandpaper on skin.
7) ✅ Key Safety Rules for Consumption
Eat First: Food slows the absorption of alcohol.
* Stay Hydrated: Alternate alcoholic drinks with water or non-alcoholic beverages.
* Know Your Limit: Use a designated driver or ride-sharing service—never drive impaired.
* Pace Yourself: Limit intake to one standard drink per hour.
Responsible consumption means prioritizing safety and knowing the signs of danger. Protect yourself and your friends.

6) 🌱 The Road to Recovery: Therapeutic Strategies for AUD
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps patients identify triggers and change the thought patterns and behaviors that lead to drinking. Motivational Interviewing helps strengthen the desire for change.
Medications like Naltrexone (reduces cravings and the pleasure from drinking) and Acamprosate (helps reduce post-withdrawal discomfort) are key parts of treatment.
Group support programs (like AA) provide a vital community and structure for long-term sobriety. Recovery is a sustained effort, not a single event.
If you or a loved one is struggling, please reach out to a healthcare professional, substance abuse specialist, or an addiction hotline immediately. Help is available.
