A Quick Dive into the History of Zero-Knowledge Proofs

The blueprint of ZKP was brought to light in 1985 in a paper titled “The Knowledge Complexity of Interactive   Proof Systems”. In this paper, ZKP was defined. Its concept of the prover having to convince the verifier of a truth without revealing any information beyond its truthfulness was discussed properly in this paper.

Goldwasser Micali and Rackoff came up with the idea of ZKP. This was one out of their interest to facilitate safe and secure communication. This record breaking paper brought doubts to the minds of people in the web 3 community. They wondered how something could be so contradictory as to revealing the truth but not giving vital and crucial information. But as time went on, they got to applaud the ZKP concept as it was practical and not a myth. 
However, ZKP has laid a solid foundation as  a new cryptographic technique. ZKP is applicable in the academic field, for elections as it was used to promote a secure voting system. Financial institutions make use of ZKP to curb the risk of fraudulent activities. 

How does Aleo protect users and organizations?

@AleoHQ gives users the ability to trust them with their personal information necessary to access online services while keeping enterprises from having to bear the regulatory and financial risk of securing that data. It does this in a technical, yet simple way. People give their direct documents and information offline, which is then translated into ZKPs that can be shared with the inquiring institution online. By doing so, the proof necessary to access services is made available in such a manner in which the privacy of the information is protected.

Aleo network’s ability to generate and validate proofs to verifiers relies solely on ZKP technology. Although updates are confidential, the underlying mathematical concepts and algorithms still allow unaffiliated nodes to confirm the authenticity of their content without containing any of the off-chain content itself. 

Aleo network has harnessed ZKPs technology to provide privacy of information to its users. With zero knowledge and zero comprises of users’ personal information to the public, Aleo remains the best Layer-1 blockchain.
